Trillions of Questions, No Easy Answers...a (home) movie about how Google Search Works

Few brands are as iconic or influential in today’s cultural and technological landscape as Google. This brand film showcases the power of Google Search, while spotlighting the people behind it. The graphics package combined infographics and animations to break down how Search works, striking a balance between informative clarity and playful energy. Given the expansive nature of the project, the design approach wasn’t confined to a single aesthetic - instead, it embraced a range of visual and animation styles to reflect Google’s dynamic vision and versatility.

The film takes several deep dives into the past the explore the history of problem solving and man's quest for answers. Practical photography was combined with graphic overlays to keep things fresh and fun.

A playful and expressive typographic system was developed, spanning from chapter cards to character identifiers. Delicate, hand-drawn elements weave throughout, adding warmth, cohesion, and a distinctly human touch.

Design was thoughtfully integrated with photography and footage throughout, enhancing both clarity and visual engagement. These moments not only support storytelling but also add a sense of playfulness and discovery.

Initial Sketches

Initial sketches explored a combination of serif and mono spaced fonts as well as a pastel palette. Ultimately the final look leaned more into Google's brand font and colors.
